A friend and I wanted to hike one Sunday but he also committed to riding bikes in Dupont with another friend of ours. So we got up early and hiked before he biked, of course. We needed a short hike that wouldn’t take up too much of the day. Neither of us had hiked the little loop up Richland Balsam before so we decided that was a good one to do before he had to leave to go to Dupont. It was a nice little hike. The environment (Spruce/Fir forest) reminds me so much of the Roan, Black Balsam Knob and a few hikes in the Smokies. It was a cool 66 degrees up there, compared to the hot 80 degrees in Asheville. It felt really nice to beat the heat. With that said, I’m ready for Fall.
