Driving up from Asheville to Mount Mitchell in the dark for a sunrise hike, you never know what the conditions are going to be like at 6,000′. After the drive and the hike up to the summit by the light of your headlamp, you then wait to see what the light is going to be like when the curtains go up. Walking up in the clouds and feeling a little pessimistic, you wait until the golden hour starts and then you’re rewarded with a dramatic blend of light and vapor.
