While the payoff for hiking Shining Rock is always the bright (and very slick!) white rock at the summit, you can’t forget to pay attention to the journey. The views from the summits and saddles is so expansive with rolling mountaintops as far as you can see. This hike was after the peak color had faded, but there was enough red and orange in the underbrush and lower elevations to still make it dramatic.
