This 1.5-mile educational trail meanders across the Community Farm, with interpretive signs along the way that illustrate the history of the farm, local wildlife, agricultural best management practices, and our stream and shortleaf pine restoration projects. We offer guided hikes along the Discovery Trail and tours of the farm throughout the year.
Our Discovery Trail was created and continues to be managed with community support from numerous volunteers. Partners from French Broad River Academy, AmeriCorps Project Conserve, American Conservation Experience — Emory, Warren Wilson College, ExploreUSA, and many more have donated their time.
In addition, SAHC was able to employ a crew from Green Opportunities (GO) to tackle a large portion of the trail construction at the outset. GO offers a combination of technical training, life skills training, industry-recognized credentials, and personalized support services to unemployed and under-employed residents of Asheville and Buncombe County.
Please note: Because the trail crosses through active agricultural production and land management areas, staff must accompany visitors along the Discovery Trail.
To make arrangements for a group to visit the farm, please contact Community Farm Manager Chris Link at chris@appalachian.org.
