SUMMARY:SAHC's Elk Hollow Preserve Hike
DESCRIPTION:Where: SAHC’s Elk Hollow Preserve in the Roan Highlands\nDistance: 1.4 miles \nDifficulty: Moderately Strenuous (6/10)\, several steep inclines and some slick surfaces.\nCost: Free for SAHC Members\, $10 for non-members\nRegistration: Pre-registration is REQUIRED\nJoin SAHC for a beautiful fall hike at our Elk Hollow Preserve! This moderate one-and-a-half-mile scenic route will guide you through stunning forests of oaks\, maples\, and beech trees. The trail will wander beside Elk Hollow Branch and pass some vibrant meadows perfect for birdwatching. SAHC’s Elk Hollow Preserve is home to a variety of rare wildlife\, such as Golden-winged Warblers\, Southern Appalachian brook trout\, and Gray’s lilies. Thanks to generous conservation supporters\, SAHC has made some improvements at the site to help people connect with nature – including a well-maintained trail system\, a tent camping platform\, and a moldering privy. \nThis hike will take place during hunting season\, so bright colored/blaze orange clothes and hats are strongly recommended. \nSAHC’s Elk Hollow Preserve is located up the Roaring Creek area in Newland\, NC – about 1.5 hours north of Asheville\, NC\, and an hour from Johnson City\, TN. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Fill Out Form Below to Sign Up\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Participant Contact InformationHiker Name(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Address(Required) \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n \n State\n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n \n Hiker Email Address(Required)\n \n Enter Email\n \n \n \n Confirm Email\n \n \n \n Phone(Required)Emergency Contact and Safety InformationPlease provide contact info for a person who is not accompanying you\, in case of an emergency.Emergency Contact Name(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Emergency Contact Phone(Required)Are you over 18 years old?(Required)\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No\n Parent Signature Required(Required)Please list first and last names\, separated by commasDo you have any allergies\, dietary restrictions\, or health conditions that we should be aware of?(Required)\n \n \n Yes\n \n \n \n No\n Allergies\, dietary restrictions\, etc.(Required) Add Remove\n Submit \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:NCWF Work Day at SAHC's Stevens Creek Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy’s Stevens Creek Preserve is situated on the Eastern edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near the Cataloochee Valley\, in Haywood County. This property serves as an important wildlife corridor for the movement of numerous species headed north and south between Cataloochee and I-40\, as well as important habitat for the growing elk population. \nJoin NC Wildlife Federation’s Smoky Mountains Wilderness Watch Chapter alongside Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy for a habitat workday at this conserved property. We will focus the workday on managing open areas by removing tulip poplar saplings to encourage a wider variety of plant species and improve foraging habitat for elk and other wildlife. \nClick HERE for Volunteer Sign Up
