SUMMARY:2025 Agroforestry Workshop: Pruning our Silvopasture Project
DESCRIPTION:When: Saturday\, February 1 from 10 am – 12 pm\nWhere: SAHC Community Farm (180 Mag Sluder Road Alexander\, NC 28701)\nWe will explore the science and strategies behind pruning trees and shrubs for agroforestry systems. The class will discuss the botany of pruning and strategies for silvopasture\, alley cropping\, food forests\, windbreaks\, and riparian buffers. We will discuss the differences in pruning for fruit\, nut\, timber\, fodder and mulch production. Participants will leave understanding how to prune trees to control growth and optimize yields. \nAbout the Presenter:\n \nThomas Leonard is an agroforestry consultant and regenerative farmer.  He is passionate about sustainable agriculture and social justice.  As cofounder of Contour Lines\, Corp.\, he provides agroforestry grants to over 14k farmers and has planted over 3 million trees.  Thomas is also a Carbon Farm Planner for Seed2Shirt\, on the Organic Growers School’s Board of Directors\, and farms/consults as Modern Harvest Farms\, LLC. \nPre-registration is required. Farm workshop fee is $20; no one turned away for inability to pay. \nRegistration for this workshop is now closed.\n  \n  \n\n   \nSAHC Community Farm work is funded in part by grants from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina\, a grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (under grant award number 2021-70033-35717)\, and a cost-share grant from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. \n  \n
