SUMMARY:2023 Farm Workshop - Whole Farm Planning
DESCRIPTION:2023 Farmer Education Workshop Series: Whole Farm Planning\nWhen: Thursday\, October 26 from 1 – 4 pm \nWhere: SAHC Community Farm\, 180 Mag Sluder Road\, Alexander NC 28701 \n“Choosing a Property: site analysis & concept design”\nReady to create your dream farm? Not sure how to create the best plan for your land? Join us for an introduction to planning and layout of land for small-scale farming. \nOur case study for this process will be a property just around the corner from the SAHC Community Farm in Alexander. We will have a virtual “walk through” site analysis of the property’s conditions using a number of land planning tools\, with a Permaculture approach. We will inventory conditions such as soils\, water\, wind\, aspect and more to create a multi-layered map of the site as a base for decision making. Using this information\, we will actively draw up together a concept for the site\, which addresses some of the needs and challenges identified in the analysis phase. \nThis workshop will be particularly appropriate for participants who already own or lease land\, as well as those who plan to do so in the future. Our focus will be on growers\, and the public is welcome! \nCost: $50 (no one turned away for inability to pay) \nRegistration/Questions: Contact Chris Link at Chris@appalachian.org or 828.490.2565. Pre-registration is required; space is limited. Rain or shine. \nWorkshop Registration Form\nOops! We could not locate your form. \n\n  \n\nFunded in part by a grant from The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and the James G. K. McClure Fund.  \nThis material is based upon work that is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture\, U.S. Department of Agriculture\, under award number 2016-70017-25341 for Farm Pathways: Integrating Farmer Training with Land Access. Any opinions\, findings\, conclusions\, or recommendations expressed in this publication are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the view of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
