The 2.0-mile loop winds through sunlit fields and shady forest edges\, providing views to showcase the vibrant beauty of the farm. Learn about the positive aspects of agroforestry as you walk through silvopasture demonstration project\, see apple trees growing in the Food Forest orchard\, stroll through the youth-friendly Story Walk\, discover how stream buffers help protect water quality\, and check out the growing areas for SAHC’s Farm Incubator Program. \nAs you explore the 140-acre property\, you may encounter Scottish Highland cattle grazing in the pastures\, white-tailed deer moving quietly through the woods\, or hawks soaring overhead. Summer is a lively time on the farm\, when native pollinator plants blooms\, birds and wildlife are active\, and our conservation and agriculture projects are on full display. \nWhether you’re a nature enthusiast\, photographer\, or someone curious about regenerative agriculture\, this hike offers an inspiring look at how conservation and farming can work hand in hand. \nPlease note that the SAHC Community Farm is an active site not open to the public outside of scheduled events. To protect this space and ensure a positive experience for all\, pre-registration is required. SUMMARY:2024 Beaver Creek Boulder Walk
DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday\, July 27th\nTime: Starting at 10:00 AM\nWhere: Beaver Creek at South Yellow Mountain Preserve\nDistance: 1 mile\nDifficulty: Moderately strenuous (7/10)\, uneven terrain with minor scrambling on slippery rocks\nCost: Free for Members\, $10 for non-members\nRegistration: Pre-registration is REQUIRED\nExplore the pristine beauty of Beaver Creek in Mitchell County with a refreshing creek walk! Beginning at a small waterfall\, hikers will trace the meandering path of the creek northwards\, while encountering vibrant aquatic life and traversing picturesque boulder fields.  This excursion is not a normal hike as it involves some rock scrambling and steep slopes\, so please come prepared with sturdy closed-toe water shoes\, snacks\, plenty of water\, a change of clothes\, and trekking poles to navigate slippery surfaces. Plan to get a little wet! \nSAHC staff leading the hike will pause frequently to cool down in the cold mountain waters or to explore the nooks and crannies of the surrounding landscape. Along the way the group will learn about the importance of protecting clean water and have a chance to experience first hand what that looks like while navigating dense hemlock groves and flourishing riparian zones. These areas are shaded by majestic oak\, poplar\, hickory\, and deciduous magnolia trees\, providing a serene backdrop for the excursion. \nPlease join us for this challenging\, yet beautiful creek walk that promises a unique experience combining adventure with environmental education in the heart of Appalachia. \nDue to the nature of this off-trail excursion\, for safety reasons\, this hike will be limited to 10 participants.  A separate registration form must be completed for each participant.  \nIf you have any questions\, please reach out to justin@appalachian.org.
