Join SAHC for a beautiful fall hike at our Elk Hollow Preserve! This moderate one-and-a-half-mile scenic route will guide you through stunning forests of oaks, maples, and beech trees. The trail will wander beside Elk Hollow Branch and pass some vibrant meadows perfect for birdwatching. SAHC’s Elk Hollow Preserve is home to a variety of rare wildlife, such as Golden-winged Warblers, Southern Appalachian brook trout, and Gray’s lilies. Thanks to generous conservation supporters, SAHC has made some improvements at the site to help people connect with nature – including a well-maintained trail system, a tent camping platform, and a moldering privy.

This hike will take place during hunting season, so bright colored/blaze orange clothes and hats are strongly recommended.

SAHC’s Elk Hollow Preserve is located up the Roaring Creek area in Newland, NC – about 1.5 hours north of Asheville, NC, and an hour from Johnson City, TN.
