Outdoor Photography on Snowball Mountain Hike 2018

November 3 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Date: Saturday, November 3rd
Time: Starting at 4:00 pm
Where: Snowball Mountain off the Blue Ridge Parkway
Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous (7-8) — 3-mile hike with steep terrain
Cost: FREE for all participants; pre-registration is required

Join Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy for a hike to Snowball Mountain. We will be joined by professional photographer Travis Bordley  whose work has been featured in the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s photo exhibition on Capitol Hill. Travis will give participants tips and tricks to get the most out of outdoor photography. The hike is timed so that participants will be able to enjoy and photograph beautiful fall colors and vistas during golden hour and the sunset.

This moderate to difficult 3-mile hike will take hikers along a high elevation ridge line with remarkable views adjacent to a 90 acre SAHC conservation easement. We will start out on the Mountains-to-Sea trail and split off to climb Snowball Mountain.  Next, we will continue North to Hawksbill Rock where we will look back onto the protected property and into the Woodfin Watershed—another SAHC protected landmark.  Hikers should be prepared for a short trip, but steep elevation changes along the way.

Hike difficulty ratings are based on this formula: (0.002 x elevation gain (ft.)) + round trip distance (mi.) = difficulty rating (1 – 10+)

Registration for hike is full – if you would like to be placed on a waiting list email israel@appalachian.org
