Appalachian Spring truly is a sight to behold! As winter relents, life bursts forth from the thawed ground, producing a dazzling display of colors, shapes, textures, and tastes. This world-famous biodiversity (over 6,000 plant species!) is the focus of many a spring pilgrimage to these mountains.
In keeping with tradition, Owen Carson, Botanist & Ecologist at Equinox Environmental, will take us on a virtual plant pilgrimage with a focus on ephemeral and other spring wildflowers commonly seen in Appalachian forests. We will explore their unique biology and ecology, learn about their preferred habitats, and see how they are distributed across the landscape. The goal is for you to leave this session feeling more confident on how to recognize and identify native woodland wildflowers.
