Hampton Creek Cove, nestled on the north flank of Little Hump Mountain, is a 700-acre Tennessee State Natural Area and the largest non-federal component of the Highlands of Roan. It is unique in the State Natural Area system in that it supports a 125-acre grazing operation, as it has for the last century. The field edges provide significant habitat for the Golden-winged Warbler, an Imperiled Neo-tropical migrant, and other rare elements dot the landscape. Fostering a model of regional cooperation, SAHC has initiated restoration and conservation actions through a number of formal and informal partnerships with state and federal agencies and sportsmen's groups to preserve the cove's natural elements, the scenic pastoral views, and a traditional Appalachian lifestyle.
